In the wake of King Juan Carlos’s abdication earlier this week, El País published a 39-page Borbonic plague of monarchical flattery. Having exhausted every other conceivable way of kissing the royal ass, the paper eventually resorted to the gratuitous use of English. Except, oops:

I did consider that, Joanna, but the article in question (link at bottom of post) is all about the king’s relations with the United States and is riddled with anglicisms such as “human touch” and “back channel.” So… *maybe* they wanted to use French… but I think it’s far more likely that they just blew it!
